Ria Shah
Ria is a PhD candidate in the School of Engineering at the University of Western Australia. Ria’s PhD focuses on the development of a novel prosthetic venous valve as a treatment solution to chronic venous disease. There are no adequate treatment options, and there are currently no commercially available prosthetic venous valves on the market, despite many attempts over recent decades. Patients suffer from recurrent ulcers, reduced mobility, and chronic pain.
Melt electrowriting (MEW) is an advanced manufacturing technology, that is capable of fabricating microscale high-resolution scaffolds. Ria’s project utilises this state-of-the-art technology in combination with advanced materials to develop a novel prosthetic venous valve.
