Emma Knowling
Emma is a PhD candidate in the School of Human Sciences at the University of Western Australia. Emma's PhD focuses on investigating what drives liquid-liquid phase separation in the motor neuron disease-associated protein SFPQ, and how this phase-separating ability links to protein functionality and pathology.
A better understanding of this process and its involvement in protein behaviour provides insight into disease pathology, which can ultimately provide new avenues for disease treatment and therapies. To research this, in vitro assays, cellular assays, and cellular disease models are being developed and implemented.
